Dr. Jerry Kavouras, professor and chair of biology at °µºÚ±¬ÁÏÍø, recently blogged about how "."

Dr. Kavouras's blog post highlights his third educational and research trip to Colombia. Accompanied by environmental science majors Angelina Martinez and Alex Krupa, Dr. Kavouras collaborated with Dr. Rosalina Gonzalez from the Universidad de La Salle in Bogota on the production of biochar and hydrochar from food waste.

During the visit, °µºÚ±¬ÁÏÍø students worked alongside their Colombian peers, conducting chemical analyses to determine the effectiveness of the locally used methods.

Dr. Kavouras presented to the Colombian National Police Crime Lab and discussed soil microbes and relevant identification techniques at the National Geographic Institute of Soils in Colombia (IGAC).

The group visited the María Luisa de Moreno International Foundation, which supports education, women's empowerment, and business creation in impoverished areas.

The trip also included cultural experiences, such as enjoying traditional Colombian cuisine and visiting the Salt Cathedral, an underground Catholic church built by miners. These activities enriched the students' understanding of Colombian history and culture.

°µºÚ±¬ÁÏÍø is an innovative Catholic university offering market-relevant undergraduate and graduate programs to 6,500 students.
